Fly Catcher Glue Pad: When to Replace, Size & Placement

Oct 24, 2026 / By Aditya Kumar / in Insect Killer

A glue-board fly catcher works only as well as its glue pad. A full or dried-out pad stops catching flies even though the UV tube is still glowing. This guide covers when to change the glue pad, which size to buy, where to place the catcher and how to keep records for food-safety audits.

How a glue pad fly catcher works

UV tubes attract flies and other flying insects. Instead of zapping them, the machine traps them on a sticky glue board behind the tubes. Because insects are not burst open, there are no fragments falling on food. That is why glue-board catchers are preferred in kitchens, food processing units and pharma areas.

When should you replace the glue pad?

  • Every 30–45 days under normal commercial use.
  • Sooner if about 70% of the board is covered with insects.
  • At least every quarter, even if lightly used, because UV light slowly weakens the adhesive.
  • Wash-down areas (dairy, food processing): inspect weekly and replace if the glue shows water spots or loses its stickiness.

Also replace the UV tubes on schedule. Tubes keep glowing after they stop attracting insects well, so date them when fitted.

Which glue pad size do you need?

The Chronovex premium glue pad is A4 size (297 × 210 mm). It fits Chronovex Bug Trapper 2-tube, 3-tube and Uplighter catchers and most 2 ft glue-board catchers that use the A4 format. If your catcher uses a different board, send a photo of the old pad on WhatsApp before ordering.

Where to place a fly catcher

  • Near entry points such as doors, windows and loading bays, where flies come in.
  • Away from direct food preparation surfaces.
  • Not facing outside through a glass door or window, or it will pull insects in from outside.
  • Away from strong competing light such as bright windows.

Pair the catcher with an air curtain or a magnetic PVC curtain on the door, so fewer insects enter in the first place. Our FSSAI Door Kit combines all three.

Keep a replacement log for audits

Food-safety and pharma audits look for pest-control records. Keep a simple log for each catcher: location, date the glue pad was changed, approximate insect count and date of the last UV tube change. Our Audit-Ready Service Plan covers scheduled glue pad and tube replacement with signed service records.

Frequently asked questions

Is a glue pad safe near food?
The Chronovex glue pad catches insects physically and contains no insecticide. Still, mount the catcher away from open food preparation surfaces.

Glue pad or zapper - which is better?
For kitchens and food areas a glue-board catcher is usually preferred because it does not scatter insect fragments. Read our zapper vs glue trap vs UV comparison.

Can I clean and reuse a glue pad?
No. Glue pads are single-use. Replace the whole board.
