Thickness drives three things: weight (which affects sealing under door slamming), cold-tolerance (thicker strips stay flexible longer at sub-zero), and impact resistance (thicker strips survive forklift contact). 2 mm is the everyday choice. 3 mm and 4 mm are for cold-chain, impact, or longer life.
Overlap is the percentage by which one strip covers the next. 50% is standard. 100% (full overlap, also called "double overlap") is mandatory for freezers and high-care food zones because gaps at the seam allow cold-air loss and insect ingress.
Standard PVC stiffens below −10 °C and starts to crack within 6 months in a freezer door. Polar-grade PVC remains flexible to −40 °C and is engineered for blast-chiller and frozen-storage doors. Always specify polar grade for any door operating below −10 °C.

For walk-in cold rooms (0 °C to +8 °C) use 2 mm × 200 mm strips with 50% overlap. For freezers and blast chillers (−18 °C and below) use 3 mm × 300 mm strips with 100% overlap to handle the weight and seal cold air better.
For pedestrian and light-vehicle traffic, 3 mm × 200 mm is the workhorse choice. For forklift and pallet-jack traffic on doors over 2.5 m, choose 4 mm × 300 mm for impact resistance and longer service life.
Overlap is the percentage by which adjacent strips cover each other. 50% overlap suits ambient industrial doors; 100% (full) overlap is mandatory for freezers, dust-controlled zones, and insect-prone food processing entrances.
Hook-on (slide-in) brackets are best when strips need frequent removal for cleaning — common in food processing and pharma. Bolt-on brackets are stronger and used for forklift doors and outdoor loading bays.
In ambient warehouses, expect 24–36 months. In freezer doors, expect 18–24 months because PVC stiffens at sub-zero temperatures. In high-traffic forklift doors, plan for 12–18 months and consider polar-grade (low-temperature) PVC.
