What Is an Air Curtain? How It Works, Benefits and Price in India (2026)
An air curtain (also called an air door) is a fan unit mounted above a doorway. It blows a fast, even sheet of air down across the opening. That invisible barrier keeps conditioned air inside and stops hot air, dust, flies and mosquitoes from coming in, while people and trolleys walk through freely. Chronovex air curtains start at ₹12,649 (2 ft), including GST and installation.
How does an air curtain work?
Inside the unit, copper-wound motors drive cross-flow blowers that pull in air and push it out through a narrow nozzle as a high-speed jet, up to 23 m/s on Chronovex models. The jet runs the full width of the door and creates a seal between the indoor and outdoor air. It works like a glass wall that nobody has to open. Add a door sensor and the air curtain runs only when the door opens.
Benefits of an air curtain
- Lower AC bills: cool air stays inside, so the AC runs less at busy, open doorways.
- Keeps out flies and mosquitoes: helps restaurants, sweet shops, food plants and hospitals with FSSAI and hygiene audits.
- Blocks dust, smoke and heat: road-facing shops and showrooms stay cleaner.
- Open-door retail: customers walk in more easily through an open door than a closed one.

Frequently asked questions
What is an air curtain used for?
An air curtain is mounted above a door to keep cool air inside and hot air, dust and insects outside, without closing the door.
What is the price of an air curtain in India?
Chronovex air curtains start at ₹12,649 for 2 ft and ₹13,749 for 3 ft, including GST and installation in Delhi NCR. The price depends on size, body (metal, SS304, aluminium) and series.
Does an air curtain reduce the AC bill?
Yes. At doors that open many times a day, a lot of cool air escapes. An air curtain blocks that loss, so the AC works less.
Should it be installed inside or outside?
Install it inside, directly above the door frame, angled 10–15° outward. The unit should be as wide as the door or slightly wider.
How much electricity does an air curtain use?
Chronovex models draw 120 W (2 ft) to 440 W (7 ft) on high speed, and only while running. With a door sensor they run only when the door is open.
